Bordeaux sits at the confluence of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers in southwest France, producing wines that have defined the world's understanding of fine wine for centuries. With over 7,000 châteaux and 57 appellations, it is the largest fine wine region on earth.

The region divides into two banks of the Gironde estuary: the Left Bank, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon on gravelly soils, and the Right Bank, where Merlot thrives on clay and limestone. The Entre-Deux-Mers plateau between the rivers produces fresh, aromatic whites.
